Bob Geldof Acrylic

Another piece for the exhibition. I started working from a different reference, but having sketched it out onto the canvas, felt it wasn't working, so decided to paint my sketch from an earlier post. I could have spent a lot longer on this, fine-tuning and so on, but once I'd done the two main strands of hair (which for me summed up his whole personality) the piece was finished.

The Rats (of 'The Boomtown Rats' fame), are going to be playing at the Fairfield Halls at the same time as my exhibition. My plan is to meet up with them and hope they can pass on a copy of the painting to Bob. He was flattered to be in Spitting Image, so hopefully he'll get a kick out of this as well.
We'll see how it goes.

Top work Paul - didn't you post this sketch on the NCN some time ago - it's come up a treat, stunning - well exaggerated but instantly recognisable. Pelican is right - best of luck with the exhibition and Bob's signature Paul.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, really appreciated! Tel: yes, the sketch has a thread on the forum, but I didn't stay faithful to that sketch, mostly used it for guidance and inspiration (so no squaring up or projecting it onto the canvas).

Nice Paul, but I wanted to say the Johnny Cash is absolutely fantastic. Characature work is great practice to know where to exagerate and make appealing shapes and edges. This goes beyond even that with great colors and composition. really beautiful, hope you do more.

Paul, your stuff is excellently excellent. The work you've put in since you drew your own foot is really paying off!! :-)

Great drawing with a very good likeness. Tho I have one little remark: for likeness, it's not someones personality one draws, it's always someones look, except when adding external objects.
Not believing this is the biggest misunderstanding in portraiting
Of course the look often refers to the personality.
Keep rocking!
