Old and New!

Before I post some video of the book, I wanted to share with you some of the changes my work has gone through over the last 3 or 4 years, and to do this will mean posting some old 'artwork'. Hopefully you can tell the difference! ;)

Looking back at old and new does two things for me, firstly it makes me feel proud of how far I've come, and secondly it makes me look forward to what I can do next. When I finish a piece of art, it is like letting go of the past and moving forward, so in that way, art for me is a form of therapy.

I hope you get a kick out of seeing the old stuff!
OLD (pre-2007)

NEW (post-2007)

The old ones were done using Painter Classic (I wouldn't use anything else!???), and the new ones Photoshop and Acrylics. The main thing I've learnt is to widen my use of mediums, and to experiment. Enjoy!

Books on their way!

Here's a photo of a couple of the books, complete with shiny cover! I've been informed that the bulk shipment will arrive at the latest 21st December. At least they will make a nice late christmas present!
I just wish I could show you all of the pages here, but then that would defeat the object of the book itself, wouldn't it ;)

Just a quickie

Just messin' about in Photoshop with this one of Don King. Spent about 3 hours tops on it. For the hair I used a charcoal brush with the shape dynamics turned on and set to 'Pen Pressure'.

Griff Rhys-Jones sketch

Thought I'd take a little break from the commissioned work to do a quick sketch of Griff Rhys-Jones. He's one of those celebs I've been wanting to draw for a long time. Fun face!

Back home with Best Portfolio

Hi guys,

Got back yesterday from the 18th annual ISCA convention, and was delighted to have received the award for best portfolio. Being in the company of such amazing artists and their portfolios, I was honoured to have won, and would like to thank all who voted for me.

Another highlight of the week was meeting Sam Viviano of Mad magazine. He graciously spared the time to show me around the Mad offices in New York when I popped along with my portfolio. It was great seeing all the inspirational Mad art on the walls, as well as chatting with Sam, Doug and Ryan.

The book is waiting to be shipped from the printers. Once it is shipped, it will be another 3-4 weeks before they arrive at my door. Thank you to those who have pre-ordered so far. I received a few advance copies for reference purposes the day before getting back. I'll be posting a video of me going through the book shortly, so you'll see what you'll get. It's pretty cool!!

Artwork Preview

Hi guys and gals. I'm currently at the ISCA annual caricature convention in Sandusky, Ohio, where the competitions have now closed and the voting on all the amazing artwork is over. The awards banquet will be tonight, when the results will be revealed.

For those who didn't come along (and you've missed a GREAT one!), here's a sneek peek at a couple of new pieces from the book that I also included in my portfolio presentation here in Sandusky. The feedback from my friends and colleagues has been fantastic, I'd like to thank them for their kind words.
